Interview with Dr. Christoph Brügger, Managing Director

You can only be close to it if you are also in the middle of it. What are the current topics? What drives the various engineers of the many different genres? Engineers' day gives us the opportunity to make contacts and have conversations that we wouldn't otherwise be able to have quite so easily. We are closer to the pulse.

Answers from Christoph Brügger about Engineers' Day.

When and in what context did you first hear about Engineers' Day?
Personally, I heard about this event from my predecessor shortly after I took up my position in October 2020.

Your company is now participating in Engineers' Day as a donor for the third time. Why are you involved in this event?
We are interested in our policyholders! You can only be close to it if you are also in the thick of it. What are the current topics? What drives the various engineers of the many different types? Engineers' day gives us the opportunity to make contacts and have conversations that we wouldn't otherwise be able to have quite so easily. We are closer to the pulse.

What goal or goals would you highlight as the most important priority in terms of your involvement in Engineers' Day or in everyday life?
As the pension fund of the most important engineering and architecture associations, our pension fund is more or less the natural partner for the implementation of Pillar 2 in these professional groups. In this context, raising the level of awareness by supporting events such as the Engineers' Day can't hurt.
We have just celebrated our 60th anniversary. Nevertheless, we have to realize again and again that many engineers and architects do not know about our existence. This must be changed.

Why do you think engineers and their services are not perceived enough in everyday life and what can engineers do about it?
As a precautionary specialist and physicist with a doctorate, I can hardly say anything about how engineers are perceived. Personally, perhaps because of my theoretical background, I perceive engineers as experts in the field. I believe it is important for engineers to make it clear to their peers that "Google will not create real solutions to complex practical problems." It is their practical expert knowledge that moves the world forward.

If you had one wish to be able to influence the promotion of young talent even more, to whom would it go and what would that wish be?
Knowing that I'm not the right person to ask this question, I'd like to address the next generation myself: Enthusiasm is one of the best means of promotion. Don't choose a field of activity that brings in income, but one that you love. The former then comes practically by itself....

Do you have another wish in connection with Engineers' Day?
Looking beyond one's own nose is extremely stimulating, not only for engineers, but also for men and women: We can all learn from each other - no one or no one has the best ideas for themselves alone. Engineers' day offers an excellent platform for living and promoting interdisciplinarity.
