Schöck: The right solution for all load-bearing building components!

Donor: Schöck Bauteile AG

Interview with Etienne Michel, Managing Director Switzerland

We have all witnessed how fast the world is developing and how important it is that engineers accompany this change and drive innovation. We at Schöck Bauteile AG want to support the basis for this with our commitment.

Answers from Etienne Michel about Engineers' Day.

When and in what context did you first hear about Engineers' Day?
It was through an employee who was in good contact with Daniel Löhr.

Your company is now participating in Engineers' Day for the second time as a donor. Why are you involved in this event?
Promoting education and development is in the DNA of our company and is the core task of the Eberhard Schöck Foundation and the Schöck Family Foundation. Schöck Bauteile GmbH has been committed to strengthening the engineering profession in Germany from the very beginning, where it has awarded the Schöck Construction Innovation Prize since 2001. Now we want to start our commitment to the engineering profession in Switzerland as well. Engineers' Day offers us this opportunity .

Which goal would you highlight as the most important priority in terms of your involvement in Engineers' Day or in everyday life?
We have all been privileged to witness how quickly the world is evolving and how important it is that engineers accompany this change and drive innovation. We want to support the basis for this with our commitment.

Why do you think engineers and their achievements are not perceived enough in everyday life and what can engineers do about it?
From my point of view, engineers are often the gray eminence in the background. Many of the people I know don't like to be in the spotlight and leave that to the stage visionaries.

If you had one wish to be able to influence the promotion of young talent even more, who would it be and what would it be?
To the education system and the teachers. From my point of view, saving money in the education system is not forward-looking. I also believe that you don't have to understand every step in order to take it, and that's why I think it's important to promote the joy of experimentation.

Do you have another wish in connection with Engineers' Day?
That it develops into an international greatness and that the world keeps looking at little Switzerland.
